He's Far Too Much
by Sasa Sema
Tumach and Heezfar the two characters in the play He's Far too Much idle away awaiting handouts from well-wishers. Instead of engaging in meaningful activities to eke out a living, they waste time conjuring riches. At one point they panic about their predicament, and in another, they reassure themselves that all will be well. Unable to overcome the misery resulting from their purposeless lives, they sleepwalk to their own demise. He's Far too Much is a beautifully rendered translation of the play Amezidi by Said A. Mohamed that depicts vividly the dependency syndrome that has stalled growth and development in the developing world. Despite grappling with heavy issues, the play is stingingly funny.
