Miss Uhuru 1963 working for Jomo Kenyatta

Miss Uhuru 1963: Working for Mzee Jomo Kenyatta is an exciting autobiographical narrative that takes the reader in a step-by-step way through Elizabeth Mumbi Madoka’s long journey to fame and her experiences with President Jomo Kenyatta’s Family. Elizabeth rises from humble beginnings and her life takes on an upward trajectory when she wins the Miss Uhuru Beauty Contest held at independence and graced by Her Excellency the First Lady, Mama Ngina Kenyatta.
The book details Mumbi’s life as President Kenyatta’s Social Secretary and her experience as part of Kenyatta’s inner circle where she rubs shoulders with the high and mighty in Kenya’s post-independence political scene. It gives us insights about the Kenyatta family and particularly Mzee Kenyatta himself that have in the past remained buried in the labyrinth of Kenya’s history. Kenyatta emerges in this narrative as a loving father, a wonderful husband, and a father to the new nation to
which he gives his all.

Elizabeth’s job places her at the centre of the Kenyatta family, which she serves with dedication. In the book, we learn from Elizabeth about Uhuru Kenyatta, Kenya’s fourth President, as a very inquisitive child. It is an unputdownable book that grips the reader from the beginning to the end. Readers will indeed find it thought-provoking and enjoyable.
