This novella contains two stories, both focusing on adolescent rebelliousness. The first one. To Grasp at a Star. revolves around Makena, a teenage girl hooked to the grand idea of becoming a star model. Her escapades in pursuit of her dreamland her in a very tight spot. In Muddled Transition, Muthoni, a naive village girl plunges into destructive behaviour owing to peer pressure. By the time she realises her mistakes, she has already swallowed the bitter pill of her rebellion. The story, To Grasp at a Star won the 2003 National Book Development Council of Kenya (NBDCK) literary award.
