Kanina and I
Charles Mangua’s best selling Son of Woman became an instant success and the beginning of Kenyan popular literature. Mangua subsequently published A Tail in the Mouth and Son of Woman in Mombasa, a sequel to Son of Woman.
Kanina and I exhibits all the elements of Mangua’s writing humour, poignant wit and pathos. Mangua relates the Mau Mau story with incisive freshness and eloquence in this rendition of the struggle as lived and recounted by a Mau Mau orphan who was witness to his parents’ Slaying by an unfeeling European landlord.
