This book, which is the winner of the 2014 children's Africana Book Award, is about a little girl Savita who travels back home to Kenya, East Africa, after visiting relatives in her ancestral land of India. It provides a different perspective about culture and life in Africa through the eyes of Savita, her family and her African friend Njeri. It will keep young readers engaged as they follow Savita's journey in the dhow with a "bag full of secrets" from India
that finally get revealed, in her home in Kenya. The book is recommended for multicultural education in any classroom or home in Africa, America, Europe, Asia and Australia. These places are becoming increasingly diverse due to migration. 
The book has a list of questions and activities for teachers to use with students to raise awareness and appreciation 
about their own and adopted cultures.
Dr Mubina Hassanali Kirmani was born in Kenya, East Africa with ancestry from India. She studied at the University of 
Nairobi and Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has worked and written vastly to promote multicultural education, and is also co-author of the book, Oral Literature of the Asians in East Africa a recommended text for schools in Kenya. 
She is currently a professor at Towson University, Maryland, where she has been Chair of the College of Education Diversity Committee and currently 
Co-Director of the University's Multicultural Conference. She is the recipient of the 2015 President's Diversity Award. 
She is often invited to conferences in the United States and internationally to present on the subject of teaching and learning in diverse societies.
